Imagine silently walking into the studio before the sun has risen. Your mind is uncluttered from the busyness of impressions which accumulate during the day. The room is quiet and warmly lit from the candles on the altar. With a calm and relaxed mind, practice commences.
Perform action, O Dhananjaya, being steadfast in yoga, abandoning attachment and being balanced in success and failure! Evenness of mind is called yoga.
(Bhagavad Gita 2:48)
Mother Nature spends the year visiting the extremes of light and dark, hot and cold, but always cycles through again providing the balance which life needs. Unlike Mother Nature, we tend to gravitate towards the poles of our personality, becoming lopsided and uneven. Would anything change if we decided to dance in the delicate balance of opposition like Mother Nature? Can we transition through the seasons of our lives with greater joy and ease if we establish ourselves in equanimity amongst the world of change and opposition? As we experience balance within, will we become more balanced in our relationship to the environment and others?
The fall Morning Immersion will be taking place the week before the autumnal equinox, one of the two days of the year when the balance of darkness and light are equal. This is a powerful and potent time to examine our own imbalances and harness the energy of the season to establish equanimity. According to traditional yoga, equanimity or evenness of mind occurs when the mind becomes still and undisturbed. The methods of yoga are designed specifically to focus the mind and reduce its tendency to roam in endless directions.
During the week of the Morning Immersion, we will be practicing Kriya Yoga, or the path of action. Kriya yoga consists of self-discipline, self-study and surrender or letting go. Even in a short period of time, powerful insights can arise through committed and sincere practice. But in order for this to occur, it does require that we commit to practice, the study of oneself and the willingness to let go of the ideas that we cling to and create a limited and distorted ability to perceive our experiences with clarity.
The Morning Immersion is an opportunity to experience your practice in a direct and powerful way. It is a week which holds the potential to deepen your connection to your practice and your purpose.
Classes meet everyday Monday through Friday September 16th through the 20th.
